The contemporary circus is an art that is affirmed not only for its virtuosity, but also for a scenic choice of transdisciplinary crossings with other artistic aspects. An art where research is the starting point for creation. The CUPULA Circus Village Festival is the first circus village in Portugal with totally free programming. Located at the entrance of the beautiful walkways of Arcozelo, a seaside village in the north of Portugal, CUPULA installs in the territory a cultural and tourist route of international dimension, promoting transformative encounters in a continuous human sharing between local and national artists and populations, freely accessible to the entire population. The program is based on the presentation of tented circus shows and alternative stages, a pavilion prepared for circus training, a free campsite and some historical monuments of the village, where the main audience development activities will be held. All activities are free and aim to transform the village during the festival period, into a cultural and artistic center common to the varied offer of contemporary circus in its various aspects.
CUPULA is a festival organized and directed by INAC – Instituto Nacional de Artes do Circo, in co-production with the Junta de Freguesia de Arcozelo - Vila Nova de Gaia, whose main focus is the diffusion and programming of the contemporary circus in Portugal, but It also has a strong link with pedagogy, sharing and promoting meetings not only of artists, but also of spaces, concepts and aspects, some more planned and some more informal. INAC is a platform dedicated exclusively to the contemporary circus in Portugal, acting in the area of training, residences, creation, programming and social inclusion. The Festival aims to foster and accompany the growth of the contemporary circus in Portugal by promoting international sharing and exchange. It also aims to bring the “New Circus” closer to the community through direct action with the local population and comprehensive programming.
The program covers all ages and audiences and is open to the entire population. The "Circus Village" aims to create the dynamics of a circus daily life, providing contact with the various circus techniques and their aesthetic currents. With an artistic circus program between national and international companies.
In order to allow the meeting and sharing between circus artists, the CUPULA Festival has a tent completely dedicated to circus training, equipped with ground acrobatics, aerial acrobatics and free space.
A very common practice in many countries, which has come for a long time, are street performances with artists, musicians, jugglers, who perform in public places to publicize their work and also receive donations.
EEEC European Meeting of Circus Schools
The meeting organized by the Spanish company "The Freak Cabaret Circus", consists of providing and articulating a meeting space to reflect on the reality of the European circus and exchange of circus schools and students, interconnected with the TAC-Festival Internacional de Teatro y Artes de Calle de Valladolid.
Camping opens on September 12th, providing an intense holiday week in harmony with the nature and experience of the spirit of the Festival and all the activities inherent in it. With free access to all who want to visit and participate in the Festival.

Jazz on the Park
Promoting the meeting and sharing between jazz musicians and circus arts. The Festival opens a musical space where we will have the opportunity to let ourselves travel through the rhythms of the strings and wind instruments. Exhibitions and Debates
Exhibition "Eyes on the Circus". an exhibition that crosses the past with the present, traveling the great stories of the circus in Portugal.
